DIY decor you can actually finish, and take with you when you move.
DecorTinker is an independent publication about DIY decor, upcycling and reversible home styling. We write for renters, first-home owners and anyone decorating with a weekend and a budget rather than a contractor and a permit.
Every project is built by us, then lived with. We publish the tool list, the true cost including what we bought twice, the hours it took, and the part that failed. If a fix cannot be undone before a deposit inspection, we say so in the first paragraph.
What you will find
- Wall decor: gallery walls, peel-and-stick panels, framed textile, picture lighting without new wiring.
- Upcycling: thrift furniture, paint systems that actually stick, hardware swaps, before and after with receipts.
- Rental-safe styling: damage-free mounting, removable coverings, plug-in lighting.
- Small projects: two-hour fixes that change how a room reads.
- Tools and materials: what we buy, what we skip, and the shortlist that earns shelf space.
- Seasonal makes: wreaths, shelves, tablescapes and porch projects with printable cut lists.
How we handle money
Some links are affiliate links and some builds use sponsored materials; both are labelled. Sponsorship does not buy a verdict, and gifted products are built to the same standard as bought ones. When a product fails we update the guide and say what changed.
Work safely
Blades, sanding, spray finishes, ladders and any electrical retrofit carry risk. We show the protection we used and flag the jobs that need a licensed electrician or a permit route instead of a shortcut.
